MATERIALS :
All materials used on our Anglers Fancy Boats must
be to the Lloyds standards
GELCOAT :
A single coat of Cray Valley - Polycore QCC pre colored gel
is applied, giving a uniform film of approximately 0.4 - 0.5mm
(0.01 - 0.020 inch) thickness. As a guide, the amount of gel
coat required to achieve this thickness is roughly 450 - 600gm/m2.
This is checked at random using a Gelcoat film thickness gauge.
Careful attention is paid to the correct amount of catalyst i.e.
1% - 2% which is added to the gel.
RESIN :
A pre-accelerated, thixotropic, Orthophthalic Resin is used, DSM
(Synolite 2020-P-1). We find this resin most suitable as it has
a low heat build up and wets out the mat very quickly. It also
cures moderately fast, after the laminating is finished.
CHOPPED MAT :
We use a PPG (Mat79) chopped strand mat, for all of our boats.
This is an emulsion bound mat, which wets out very well. The
approximate resin to glass ratio achieved is 2:1. The grades we
mostly use, are 40Ogm and 600gm/m2.
The hulls are moulded under proper temperature condititions and
all of the above materials are Lloyd's approved. Our supplier
is issuing Certificates of Conformity with each delivery, Specification sheets
and Llyod's certificate enclosed.
APPLICATION :
The gelcoat is applied, and left to cure fully before the mat
is put on. We then brush on a coat of resin to the gel before
we lay up a layer of 450gm/m2 mat. Three more layers of 600gm/m2
mat is applied, making sure each layer is fully rolled. Keel, galvanised keel band and side keels are then fitted with stainless steel bolts.
When seat blocks and buoyancy tanks are fitted, two more layers
of 600gm/m2 fiberglass are applied to1/3 the bottom of the hull. 12 mm, plywood is fitted to the floor and fiberglassed in with 3 layers of 600gm/m2 from the waterline down to the bottom of hull It is subsequently gelcoated on the inside using a QCC pre colored Topcoat. The hull is then fitted out with Teak seats Knees, Rowblocks, Transom and gunwhales which are fastened with stainless steel screws and wood glue.
ENGINES :
Recommonded outboard motor H.P.,
5H.P. to maximum10H.P. for the 17ft and 19ft Boat. The maximum
size engine for the 14ft is 6 H.P.
